Large-flowered trillium occurs in rich, deciduous forests, usually in shade under maple, basswood or ash. The spring display is so striking that it is tempting to transplant it from the wild. But wild populations have been severely depleted, and transplanted trilliums don't do well. Obtain only from sources that propagate their own stock.
